In order to better serve our community, Spartanburg Water has implemented sewer regulations as well as grease control and cross connection programs. These compliance programs are mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC).
The Grease Control Program requires that fats, oils and greases be handled in a manner that does not cause sanitary sewer overflows or adversely impact any component of Spartanburg Water’s sewer collection lines and/or wastewater treatment system.
The Sanitary Sewer Use Rules and Regulations limit all discharges to the sewer system in order to protect public health and safety and the structural and operational integrity of the collection and treatment systems
The Cross Connection/Backflow Program at Spartanburg Water prevents the contamination of the drinking water supply in the event of a backflow.
